Two new research centres for Big Data and IT security launched in Germany

30 million Euro support provided by the federal government.

Supporting the competitiveness of the industry in the middle of the technical transition to the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, German’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research will establish two new competence centres for Big Data and IT security. 

One of them, the Berlin Big Data Centre (BBDC) will act under the aegis of the TU Berlin. The second initiative is the Competence Centre for Scalable Data Services and Solutions (ScaDS) and is driven by TU Dresden.

20 million are planned for the new research projects in the field of Big Data. In the field of the Big Data the BBDC and ScaDS aim to develop high-innovative technologies which can organise and integrate a huge amount of Data to extract knowledge, visual analysis, economic and social value. In addition to the Technische Universität Berlin and Technische Universität Dresden, some other important universities and institutions are members of the consortiu, for example Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik (ZIB, Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, der Beuth Hochschule and Deutschen Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI), Universität Lleipzig, Max-Planck Iinstitut für Zellbiologie, Leibniz-Institut für ökologische Raumentwicklung Dresden and some other associated partners.
