Outcomes of BDVA/DAIRO Activity Group Meeting 42 - 4th of February 2021
On the 4th of February BDVA/DAIRO organised an Activity Group Meeting for its members, the first of 2021, focused on discussing the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes and particularly the aspect of European Data Sharing Spaces included in the latter.
Up to 120 members of the community participated in the plenary session and the agenda involved presentations from over 30 speakers and experts, including from the European Commission.
The morning session was dedicated to discussing updates from the association Task Forces and to the topic of standardisation, with presentations from several initiatives. Eight BDVA/DAIRO members and notably Optiva Media, Vicomtech, Bluespecs, Intellimech, ATC, Tecnalia, JAMK University of Applied Sciences and Leonardo also took the chance to pitch about their R&D capabilities and key priorities under the upcoming research programmes in the areas of Data and AI. Furthermore, BDVA/DAIRO members could hear a presentation from the European Organisation for Security (EOS) concerning their AI activities. EOS is one of the newly established collaborations of BDVA/DAIRO (see here) and joint activities will be organised in the future.
After the morning plenary, interested members joined a parallel session focusing on the security application domain and aimed at brainstorming about BDVA/DAIRO possible activities in this area. More information on these activities will be shared soon.
The afternoon plenary focused on the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) and the topic of European Data Sharing Spaces in particular. The European Commission first presented how this theme is covered under the DEP and what is planned for the upcoming calls. BDVA/DAIRO Task Force 10 - European Data Sharing Spaces (see here) then illustrated all the work that the community has done so far in this domain and what will come next. The Task Force Leads of TF10 - European Data Sharing Spaces insisted on the fact that all BDVA/DAIRO Task Forces and members are called to contribute to this topic in the future. Following these presentations and as a demonstration of the relevance of this topic for the community, 10 BDVA/DAIRO Members (VTT, UPM, TU Eindhoven, ITI, Engineering, TU Wien, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, KUL/IMEC, Tekniker and Sintef) and 4 Task Force Leads delivered their pitches presenting their activities and capabilities in this domain. The afternoon session ended with a presentation of the part of skills and education of the DEP by Task Force 9 - Skills and education.
The next Activity Group meeting will be organised in March. More information will be available soon.
