A BETTER project for exploiting Big Data in Earth Observation

Big-data Earth observation Technology and Tools Enhancing Research and development is an EU-H2020 research and innovation project, started in November 2017 to the end of October 2020.
The project’s main objective is to implement Big Data solutions (denominated as Data Pipelines) based on the usage of large volumes and heterogeneous Earth Observation datasets. 

Horizon Europe: The European Commission proposal for EU 2021-2027 Research and Innovation Programme

On June 7th 2018, the European Commission announced its proposal of €100 billion for for research and innovation the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027. A new programme – Horizon Europe – will build on the achievements and success of the previous research and innovation programme (Horizon 2020) and keep the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation. Horizon Europe is the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever.

Horizon Europe will introduce the following main new features:

BDVA welcomes new members

On the 14th of May 2018, the BDVA General Assembly officially welcomed 2 new associate members: Ertico ITS Europe and Quantos Statistics & information systems. Additionally, RISE SICS, the leading research institute for applied information and communication technology in Sweden, founded in 1985 and associate member of BDVA since March 2016, upgraded its membership to becomse a BDVA FULL member

KDD 2018 Project Showcase Track Call for Proposals (Submission Due Date: June 1, 2018)

Brand new in KDD 2018, the Project Showcase Track offers a full day focused exclusively on innovative KDD-relevant projects from national and regional funding programs, as well as corporate, start-up, and nonprofit channels. KDD is the flagship research conference on Big Data, Data Mining, and Machine Learning, with over 5,000 attendees from leading academia and industry globally.

Big Data Webinar organized by the PICASSO project

As part of the webinars organized by the PICASSO project, a webinar on Big Data has been scheduled for the 11th May, 4.30 p.m. CEST. This webinar will include a slot on “Big Data PPP structure & Topics for Collaboration” where Andreas Metzer (BDVA) will present the Big Data Value Association. PICASSO is a project funded under the EU Horizon 2020 programme with the aim of reinforcing EU-US ICT collaboration in pre-competitive research in key enabling technologies related to societal challenges, and to support the EU-US ICT policy dialogue.
