BDVA at the SME event “wissensoffensive 2015”

On 10th August 2015, Dr. Andreas Metzger (paluno) represented the BDVA at the SME event "wissensoffensive 2015". In the opening panel on "Digitization and Big Data", Dr. Metzger discussed opportunities and risks of Big Data jointly with Brigitte Zypries (Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy) and Mirja-Hannele Ahokas (German Representation of the European Commission). 

BDVA and EIT Digital are joining forces to advance European Big Data Economy

EIT Digital and the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) signed on June 17 a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) to join forces to support the advancement of European Big Data Economy. The signing, in the context of the first Summit of the Big Data Value Association in Madrid (June 17-19), was done in Madrid via video links to Berlin and Brussels by Willem Jonker, CEO EIT Digital and Jürgen Müller, Head of SAP Innovation Center Network and BDVA president. All in the presence of Giuseppe Abbamonte, Director of Media & Content Directorate, DG Connect, European Commission. 

Smart Data event - Germany and Europe on the Way to a digital data economy

On the 22nd April 2015 Laure Le Bars (SAP) represented BDVA in the panel discussion titled 'Datadriven innovation - European Opportunities and Challenges'. Brigitte Zypries, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, opened the conference entitled "Smart Data - Germany and Europe on the way to a digital data economy" in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy the 22nd of April. The event also featured Günther Oettinger, EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, and Gesche Joost, Germany's Digital Ambassador. 

Big Data Value Association Summit in Madrid

The Big Data Value Association (BDVA) is organizing its first Summit in Madrid from 17th till 19th June 2015.

The aim of the BDVA Summit is to inform about the BDVA activities, present the main expected funding opportunities in the field of Big Data and to set-up dialogues to discuss opportunities and challenges offered by Big Data among the European Big Data Community.

The Summit is expected to foster the networking and cooperation on research, development and business innovation around Big Data.


BigDataEurope's 'Big Data' Survey

In cooperation with BDVA, the BigDataEurope project has set up a survey identifying current and future challenges for Big data and data management across the seven H2020 societal challenge sectors. The primary objective of the survey from the project's point-of-view is to elicit requirements for the big data integrator platform which the project seeks to design and develop. The results will also be used as input for the BDVA's efforts. Please take the survey here.

Big Data Value Association

The Big Data Value Association AISBL is a fully self-financed non–for-profit organisation under Belgian law. Currently there are 24 founding members from large and SME industry and research. The BDVA shall present an industry-led contractual counterpart to the European Commission for the implementation of the Big Data Value PPP cPPP. A basic principle is openness, transparency and inclusiveness.

BDVA announces election of President and Board Members

Big Data Value Association is pleased to announce the election of Jürgen Muller, Head of Strategic Research, SAP SE, as President of BDVA. Jan Sundelin, CEO, TIE Kinetix, and Jose Maria Cavanillas, Director of Research & innovation, ATOS were elected as his Vice-Presidents.

Stuart Campbell, CTO at TIE Kinetix, was appointed as Secretary-General of the BDVA. He will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative management of the Association, supported by his Deputy Secretaries, Nuria de Lama, Research and Innovation Representative to the EC, Atos, and Julie Marguerite, European Research Cooperation Manager, Thales. Tonny Velin, Managing Director, Answare, was appointed as Treasurer.

At the General Assembly gathered in Barcelona on 18th November 2014, it was agreed that the Board of Directors will have 36 members of which 24 will be Founding members and 12 new members. According to the bylaws first terms of the Board of Directors is two years.
