BDVA @ ICT2015, (Lisbon – 20-22 October)

BDVA will participate in ICT event to be held in Lisbon from 20th to 22nd of October 2015. BDVA will be very active in Exhibition area and Networking sessions. A booth (PPPs4) in the EC Village in the Ground floor will be assisted by BDVA representatives to meet people willing to learn about BDVA or BDV PPP activities. Members will be able to organize some meetings on Big Data in the booth.
A Networking session will be organised to explain what is the Big Data Value PPP and the Big Data Value Association, how to join, which are the main instruments that will be used to implement the programme, which companies are already investing in Big Data, how to contribute to the process of updating the European Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda

EU Data Landscape (beta) released for public comments - help us improve it!

IDC together with Open Evidence is pleased to announce the release of the beta version of EU Data Landscape map for public consultation. The EU Data Landscape aims to provide a summary representation of the main players in the EU data market, while at the same time defining better what is the EU data market, where are its boundaries and what services does it provide.

BDVA @ Big Data Lighthouse Infoday (Brussels 1st December)

BDVA will be present at the Infoday related to Big Data Large Scale Pilots. This is a special Information and Networking Day dedicated to H2020's ICT-15 'Big Data PPP: Large Scale Pilot actions in sectors best benefitting from data-driven innovation' (also known as Lighthouse Projects) organised by DG Connect - Data Value Chain Unit, on 1st December 2015 in Albert Borschette Congress Center in Brussels.

Lighthouse projects are large scale Innovation Actions aiming to practically demonstrate how big data technologies can be transformative for data intensive industrial domains.

BDVA @ EDF2015 (16-17 November - Luxembourg)

BDVA collaborates in the EDF 2015 event to be held in Luxembourg from 16th to 17th of November 2015. This event is organised by Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), Security and Trust (SNT), Publications Office and the National Agency for Innovation and Research (LUXINNOVATION) and supported by the European Commission and configures as a meeting for industry professionals, researchers, policymakers and members of community initiatives to discuss the challenges of Big Data and the emerging Data Economy and to develop suitable action plans for addressing these challenges.

BDVA and the European Data Market study cooperate on European data economy seminars

22nd September, 14:00 CEST - Webinar: The Big Data Value PPP: state of the art and next steps.

The Big Data Value Association and the European Data Market study are collaborating in dissemination activities around the European data economy. One of the first actions was a webinar where Stuart Campbell, the BDVA Secretary General, presented (see below) the current status of Big Data Value PPP, the next steps, and how to be involved.

A community survey for monitoring the BDV SRIA is open!

The objective of this survey is to engage with the wider BDVA community to ensure a comprehensive perspective concerning the technical and business impact of the SRIA technical and non-technical priorities as well as to identify emerging priorities with high impact for the European big data economy. 


The questionnaire refers to the five technical priorities ( 1) Data Management 2) Data Processing Architectures 3) Deep Analytics 4) Data Protection and Pseudonymisation Mechanism 5) Data Visualisation and User Experience) , to associated non-technical priorities, as well as the set-up of the BDV projects.

BDVA at the SME event “wissensoffensive 2015”

On 10th August 2015, Dr. Andreas Metzger (paluno) represented the BDVA at the SME event "wissensoffensive 2015". In the opening panel on "Digitization and Big Data", Dr. Metzger discussed opportunities and risks of Big Data jointly with Brigitte Zypries (Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy) and Mirja-Hannele Ahokas (German Representation of the European Commission). 

BDVA and EIT Digital are joining forces to advance European Big Data Economy

EIT Digital and the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) signed on June 17 a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) to join forces to support the advancement of European Big Data Economy. The signing, in the context of the first Summit of the Big Data Value Association in Madrid (June 17-19), was done in Madrid via video links to Berlin and Brussels by Willem Jonker, CEO EIT Digital and Jürgen Müller, Head of SAP Innovation Center Network and BDVA president. All in the presence of Giuseppe Abbamonte, Director of Media & Content Directorate, DG Connect, European Commission. 

Smart Data event - Germany and Europe on the Way to a digital data economy

On the 22nd April 2015 Laure Le Bars (SAP) represented BDVA in the panel discussion titled 'Datadriven innovation - European Opportunities and Challenges'. Brigitte Zypries, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, opened the conference entitled "Smart Data - Germany and Europe on the way to a digital data economy" in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy the 22nd of April. The event also featured Günther Oettinger, EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, and Gesche Joost, Germany's Digital Ambassador.
