Community Survey for monitoring BDV SRIA, now open!
The BDVA (Big Data Value Association) is launching its yearly community survey for monitoring the BDV Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). The objective of the community survey is to engage with the wider community to ensure a comprehensive perspective concerning the technical and business impact of the SRIA technical and non-technical priorities as well as to identify emerging priorities with high impact for the European big data economy. The results of the community survey will be used as input for the regular SRIA update.

The survey should not take longer than 10 minutes and is open until 30. September 2016.

EC Workshop 'Interoperability and Standards in the European Data Economy'
The European Commission's Data Value Chain Unit (G.3) at DG CONNECT organised a workshop on "Interoperability and Standards in the European Data Economy" on 14th March 2016, held at the EUROFORUM Building in Luxembourg from 9:00 until 17:00.
The aim of the workshop was to identify cross-cutting issues in the standardisation landscape of the European data economy.
The workshop was intended to give the attendants the opportunity to provide input to European policy discussions on data interoperability and standards, and to exchange views and network with other stakeholders of the European data ecosystem.
The workshop aimed at sharing and discussing issues related with interoperability and standards in the European Data Economy, under an informal and open approach intended to explore key topics and action aspects that should be taken into consideration for current and future policy activities.
PICASSO EU-US Expert Group Meeting on Big Data
More than 50 EU and US experts from Big Data, 5G Networks, Internet of Things/Cyber Physical Systems and the Policy field met at the first PICASSO Expert Groups meeting, hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the Department of Commerce at Washington, D.C., USA, on the 20th of May 2016. The Expert Groups exchanged ways to enhance transatlantic collaboration, priorities, and the next steps. BDVA was represented in the PICASSO Big Data Expert Group by Prof. Dr. Sören Auer from the University of Bonn, Dr. Andreas Metzger from paluno (The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology), and Nikos Sarris from ATC, who is also acting as Expert Group chair. Fostering the BDVA in the Small Big Data Value Association Summit in The Hague
The BDVA organized its second Summit in The Hague from March 2 to 4, 2016 – an event that was centred on Societal Impact of Big Data. More than 200 attendees from all around Europe, showing the consolidation and maturity of Big Data Value Association. Keynote speeches, one interesting panel session with 7 panellists, and 15 working sessions showed the results of BDVA Task Forces and addressed the future needs for the European Big Data Community.
