K-Plex project presents results in two scientific conferences

On Thursday, 30th November, Dr. Georgina Nugent Folan will present the paper "Data, Metadata, Narrative. Barriers to the Reuse of Cultural Sources" at the Metadata and Semantics Research Conference, Tallinn, Estonia (http://www.mtsr-conf.org/). MTSR is an annual international inter-disciplinary conference which brings together academics, researchers and practitioners in the specialized fields of metadata, ontologies and semantics research.

BDVA welcomes 12 new Members!

The BDVA General Assembly held in Versailles during the European Big Data Value Forum on November 23rd officially admitted 12 new members: 

  • 5 Full members (1 Large Enterprise, 2 SME, 2 Research/Academia)
  • 7 Associate members (1 Large Enterprise, 4 SME, 1 Research/Academia, 1 Association)
  • In total 2 Large Enterprises, 6 SMEs, 3 Research/Academia, 1 Association
  • Members from 8 different countries: France (2), Germany (1), Italy (2), Spain (2), Switzerland (1), UK (1), NL (2), Greece (1)

EBDVF 2017: Future directions to Data-Driven Innovation and Artificial Intelligence

The European Big Data Value Forum 2017, with the scope "Trusted AI in Smart Industry", ended in Versailles with the participation of over 800 participants on average per day (1200 registrations for 3 days).
Challenges and future directions in data-driven & artificial intelligence research and innovation have been discussed and analysed among key players and stakeholders of the Big Data Value Ecosystem. Key technological and societal aspects of trust and transparency for human-centred data-driven innovation were addressed.

European Network of National Big Data Centers of Excellence website

The European Network of National Big Data Centers of Excellence has launched their webpage: www.big-data-network.eu. The objective of this network is to collect best practices and key achievements of each center, define big challenges, meet on regular basis, and align with other European initiatives, with the ultimate goal of defining the data-driven future of Europe.

Media Fast Forward

This year, VRT, Var and BOZAR are organising a special edition of Media Fast Forward, the yearly networking and inspiration event on media innovation. On the 5th of December in Brussels, Media Fast Forward engages entrepreneurs, media professionals, researchers, advertisers and everyone with interest in media innovation to re-think the opportunities and impact of media and technology in our (future) world.

BBC R&D established a five-year collaboration to unlock the potential of data in the media

BBC Research and Development, along with colleagues from around the BBC, launched a five-year research partnership with eight UK Universities to unlock the potential of data in the media. The Data Science Research Partnership has the objective to be at the forefront of machine learning in the media industry, helping create a more personal BBC that can inform, educate and entertain in new ways.

UPM and Accenture launch AI.nnovation Space

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and Accenture have signed a collaboration agreement for the creation of AI.nnovation Space, a new artificial intelligence technology center. It will be the first European mixed technology center located in a Spanish university, where all the stages of an innovative product, from the collection of ideas until the release to the market, will be covered. The center will be placed at the High Technical School of Computer Engineers of the UPM, in the Campus of International Excellence of Montegancedo (Boadilla del Monte, Madrid).

The Big Data Europe (BDE) project is presenting and releasing the final public version of its
open source Integrator Platform at the Webinar scheduled on Thursday 16 November, 15:00
CET
During this Webinar, BDE’s technical team will present what the Big Data Europe
Integrator Platform can do, how it does it, and how you can use it in order to derive more
value from your data sets. Moreover the project’s latest achievements with regard to
Semantifying the Big Data Stack will be showcased.

BDVA Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda

BDVA announces the official publication of its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) version 4 .

The agenda defines the overall goals, main technical and non-technical priorities, and a research and innovation roadmap for the European Public Private Partnership (PPP) on Big Data Value. The SRIA explains the strategic importance of Big Data, describes the data value chain and the central role of ecosystems, details a vision for Big Data Value in Europe in 2020, and sets out the objectives and goals to be accomplished by the PPP within the European research and innovation landscape of Horizon 2020 (H2020) and at both national and regional levels.
