This survey has been created by the BDVA TF1.SG7 in collaboration with other Task Forces and the EC. Results of this survey will be shared in the second version of the BDVA paper "Towards a European Data Sharing Space".

HPC, Big Data, IoT and AI future industry-driven collaborative strategic topics

On May 5th 2020, BDVA organised, in collaboration with ETP4HPC and the European Commission, an online workshop to analyse in depth the challenges, limitations and longer term perspectives of the Large Scale Pilot actions that are currently being developed in the context of the ICT-11-2018-2019 calls. Based on this analysis, the aim is to outline future research and innovation needs in terms of convergence and alignment of the basic technologies and their utilization in industry and specially SMEs.

Covid-19 Webinar: VODAN

BDVA organises, with the support of GO FAiR, CODATA and the Philips Foundation, a webinar on April 29th at 14h CEST to raise more awareness about the VODAN Implementation network. The purpose of the Implementation Network is to make the SARS CoV-2 virus data FAIR, meaning that they are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and thus Reusable by both humans and machines, during this epidemic of COVID-19. 

Opertus Mundi - A Single Digital Market for Industrial Geospatial Data Assets

Aim of the project is to build an Industrial Geospatial Data Marketplace for Europe, that shall be a central hub for geospatial data that guarantees affordability and flexibility in line with the needs of all users regardless of their size, domain, and expertise. Our vision is a breakthrough in the trading and sharing of commercial geospatial data assets in a cross-border and cross-sector setting following the goal to implement Europe’s Data Economy.

BDVA i-Spaces call for labels 2020 open until 15th June

The BDVA i-Spaces call for labels 2020 process is open now.  If you want to apply, all the information and the corresponding questionnaire are available here.  Deadline for sending the questionnaire has been extended until 15th June, 2020. The ceremony with the announcement of new i-Spaces and trophies handing-out will be hold as part of the European Big Data Value Forum 2020 (Berlin, 3-5 November, 2020).

EOSC DIH Open Call for new pilots

The EOSC DIH is launching an Open Call for new business pilots from any sector. Applications open 2 April 2020 and close 3 May 2020 at 17:00 CEST

The European Open Science Cloud Digital Innovation Hub (EOSC DIH) invites start-ups/spin-offs, SMEs, Large enterprises, Digital Innovation Hubs, Competence Centres, Innovation spaces or small consortia from any sector to participate in the Open Call for business pilots. Up to five awarded applicants will participate in pilots that are expected to run between 3-6 months 

COViD-19 Data Exchange

In response to the impacts related to the COVID-19 crisis, and following the fairly unanimous call to accelerate data sharing, as a key contributor to solving this situation, Dawex took the initiative to launch the COVID-19 Data Exchange. Get involved here!

The aim of this COVID-19 Data Exchange platform is to facilitate access to data, and make sure that researchers, scientists, doctors and States are able to share any data that can be useful for the community.It will also play a key role in the coordination of effort of all economic stakeholders, at public and private level, worldwide, that are crucial in the struggle against the virus, to overcome the many collateral damages caused by the pandemic.

The BDVA community wants to open a discussion to share experiences and evidence about the best way to use data and AI to manage the pandemic and support identifying the best practices to be recommended and the best ideas to be shared. Join us in our online session "Are we using data in the best way to manage the COVID-19 Pandemic?" taking place on March 26th at 14h CET.

New group on Data Sharing Spaces (TF1.SG7)

The BDVA Board of Directors (BDVA BoD) adopted last February 26th the mandate for a new subgroup under Task Force 1 (TF1) on Data Sharing Spaces (TF1.SG7). The formalisation of this existing activity into a subgroup under Task Force 1 will help centralise material, promote further participation to generate further input, and increase visibility of its activities and results outside the BDVA environment. The new Subgroup is led by Dr. Simon Scerri (Fraunhofer IAIS) and co-led by Dr. Irene López (Bluspecs) and Dr. Tuomo Tuikka (VTT).

EBDVF2020 will take place between Tuesday November 3rd and Thursday November 5th in the conference center KOSMOS in Berlin Karl-Marx-Allee. Save the date!! 

The European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) is the flagship event of the European Big Data and Data-Driven AI Research and Innovation community organized by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) and the European Commission (DG CNECT). EBDVF 2020 in Berlin aims to continue the success of previous editions where on average we got around 1000 participants including industry professionals, business developers, researchers, and policymakers coming from over 40 countries.
