The Data Spaces Support Centre has released version 1.5 of its blueprint, marking a significant step forward in providing comprehensive guidance and references for data space designers and builders. This latest version includes:

  • Glossary: a list of terms and definitions, aimed to establish a consistent and coherent terminology about data spaces and related aspects
  • Building Blocks: main pieces that describe functionalities, such that combine with other building blocks provide the functionalities of the whole data space
  • Co-creation method: a practical hands-on methodology for data space builders to guide them in the use of the building blocks through the different stages of data space
  • Toolbox: a curated catalogue of implementations that provides one of several of the capabilities defined in the building blocks

The Big Data Value Association (BDVA) has played a critical role in developing this blueprint. Recognising the importance of creating real value from data spaces, BDVA has been particularly active in defining the business dimension and the data value creation pillar, as it led the development of the Value Creation Services building block for the last mentioned segment. For this, BDVA has conducted extensive discussions through its dedicated Task Force and Technical Board, gathering insights from experts within the community. Finally, BDVA has also actively contributed to the co-creation method.

Additionally, this comprehensive content addresses several key areas of interest for BDVA, to which BDVA has actively contributed through various activities and discussions over recent months: data product concept (examined in various BDVA workshops from legal, business, and technical perspectives, and in the BDVA discussion paper around data quality), interoperability within and between data spaces (addressed in BDVA discussion paper and a key topic during the last European Big Data Value Forum) and data related standards (BDVA as member of the CEN Trusted Data Transactions CWA and liaison of the CEN Focus Group on data, dataspaces, cloud and edge).

BDVA is proud to actively contribute to this initiative and remains committed to continuing its work on this blueprint, with the set goal of making it the definitive reference for building data spaces in Europe.
