BDVA is very proud to share with you the “Generative AI and Data Spaces” white paper. The recent publication represents a joint effort within the framework of the Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC) and its Network of Stakeholders (NoS), in particular in collaboration with the Strategic Stakeholder Forum (SSF) but also with several data spaces initiatives that are part of the Community of Practice (CoP) and several AI initiatives that are developing key infrastructures for Europe. Within the DSSC, BDVA oversees the overall Network of Stakeholders (NoS) – Strategic Stakeholder Forum and played a key role in driving the paper forward.

BDVA works in the interplay of Data and Artificial Intelligence and data ecosystems, data spaces and AI are key topics for our community. The recently delivered paper connects with several of the BDVA Task forces such as the one of Data Spaces, Generative AI, etami, Data and AI technologies and to all the sector-specific task forces.

BDVA is also a private member of the EuroHPC JU, bringing data applications and Industrial AI expertise to the partnership. The EuroHPC JU has recently announced the AI Factories (AIFs), a cornerstone of the AI Innovation Package launched by the European Commission in January 2024, which are expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Europe’s leadership in trustworthy AI.

This recent white paper dedicates a section to AI Factories, providing an illustrative example where data is supposed to fuel the potential of GenAI and emerging AI applications in Europe. The content is based on an ongoing discussion paper that BDVA is currently elaborating with the purpose of providing coherence and collecting common knowledge on the topic of AI Factories and proposing recommendations and a roadmap of actions to accelerate access of the AI Factories to the Common European data spaces.

We believe that the synergy between GenAI and data spaces hold significant transformative potential. It can be one of the keys to unlocking the value of industrial, commercial and personal data for Europe and worldwide. These synergies can enable the use of data in an ethical, trustworthy and regulatory-compliant manner, allowing for fairness in data and GenAI value chains, as well as creating new business opportunities and incentives for data sharing.
