The Draghi report on European Competitiveness clearly points out stalling European productivity compared to the US and China calling for an extra 800 billion Euro investment for RD&I as main drivers for sustainable productivity gains. While the FP10 is the EU’s principal instrument for fostering this transformation, it is insufficient to face the challenge of restoring Europe’s productivity growth.

What is needed:

  • A significant increase of budget for FP10 following recommendations from the Draghi report and the Competitive Europe Compass.
  • Reinforcement of collaborative, industry-driven RD&I by strengthening Pillar II.
  • Support full-circle RD&I continuum in FP10 and ECF spanning from fundamental research to deployment and scale-up, aligned with key EU priorities.

It is clear, that there is no time and BDVA along with the other undersigned associations are ready to work together with EU institutions to create the innovation-driven framework Europe needs to compete and sustain prosperity.
