Horizon Europe: €7.3 Billion boost to enhance competitiveness and talent growth
The European Commission has adopted its Horizon Europe work programme for 2025, investing over €7.3 billion to bolster research, innovation, and Europe's global competitiveness.
The European Commission has adopted its Horizon Europe work programme for 2025, investing over €7.3 billion to support research, innovation and Europe’s global competitiveness. The funding aims to drive cutting-edge science and accelerate the green and digital transitions.
Part of the funding will support researchers affected by war, particularly Ukrainian scientists, through updates to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). A new pilot, ‘Choose Europe for Science’, will offer enhanced benefits and longer contracts for early-career researchers.
This pilot is a key component of a wider €500 million initiative presented by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focused on keeping science open, investing in talent and enhancing innovation.
The work programme includes opportunities under the European Research Council (ERC), which now offers higher relocation support and new long-term ‘super grants’ for top researchers. Horizon Europe remains the EU’s flagship programme for science and innovation, structured across multiple pillars and complementary initiatives.
