Brussels, November 10

The European Commission announced today an investment of €1.98 billion to advance the digital transition and meet the goals set for the Europe’s Digital Decade. The funding comes in three work programmes through Digital Europe Programme (DEP).

The main work programme, worth €1.38 billion, will focus on investment in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud and data spaces, quantum communication infrastructure, advanced digital skills, and the wide use of digital technologies across the economy and society, until the end of 2022.

The two other work programmes focus on European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) and cybersecurity. Setting up and operationalizing a network of EDIHs gets a budget of €329 million, until the end of 2023. EDIHs offer and access to technology testing and support the digital transformation across Europe, aiming to serve especially small and medium-sized businesses and start-ups.

The cybersecurity work programme will see investments in building advanced cybersecurity equipment, tools and data infrastructures. Until the end of 2023, cybersecurity gets a budget of €269 million.
