This direction focuses on strengthening the coherence of Europe’s fragmented data and AI landscape by connecting initiatives, clarifying their respective roles and identifying synergies, gaps and overlaps. Europe has developed a growing set of complementary instruments, but their relationships and roles are not always sufficiently clear to stakeholders. A more coherent ecosystem architecture and shared strategic vision are needed to ensure that investments reinforce each other and contribute to a functioning European data and AI ecosystem. In this sense, this direction focuses on the following priorities:
- Aligning the fragmented European data and AI ecosystem, connecting major initiatives and clarifying their respective roles within a coherent ecosystem architecture. BDVA is well positioned to contribute at both European and national/regional levels: at European level, through its broad engagement across key EU Data and AI initiatives and its connections with industry, research, and policy actors; and at national and regional level, through the BDVA i-Spaces, which engage local ecosystems and connect different instruments and initiatives (including AI Factories, EDIHs, and TEFs)
- Developing a shared strategic vision for Europe’s data and AI landscape, identifying synergies, gaps and overlaps across initiatives and actors
- Strengthening coordination between European and Member State strategies, connecting national and European initiatives and reducing fragmentation
- Positioning BDVA as a strategic bridge connecting data, HPC and AI communities and acting as a trusted intermediary between industry, research and policymakers
