Europe’s competitiveness in Data and AI depends not only on technological excellence and strong data foundations, but also on the ability to align and connect a highly fragmented ecosystem of initiatives, actors, and investments. Today, Europe has a rich landscape of research programmes, industrial initiatives, data spaces, and AI activities, but their impact is often limited by fragmentation, lack of coordination, and insufficient scale-up mechanisms.
In this context, BDVA plays an increasingly important role as a reference point and knowledge hub for the European Data and AI landscape. BDVA contributes to structuring the ecosystem, identifying synergies, and supporting a shared understanding of priorities and gaps. This role is essential to ensure that Europe moves from a collection of excellent but isolated efforts towards a coherent and competitive innovation system.
