This direction focuses on developing the technologies and governance mechanisms required to transform data into trusted knowledge actionable insights throughout its lifecycle:
- Advanced data analytics, going beyond traditional analytics to address unstructured and multimodal data, augmented and increasingly prescriptive analytics, real-time and continuous analysis, distributed data and large-scale processing, and the extensive use of AI to enhance analytical capabilities.
- Secure and trustworthy data pipelines, providing end-to-end protection of data from source to processing and AI models through encryption, tracking, integrity checks and governance mechanisms. This should ensure an unbroken data chain of custody, protecting privacy and data integrity, enabling accountability, and mitigating risks such as data leakage, tampering and poisoning.
- Advanced semantic capabilities, including annotation, labelling and semantic enrichment, enabling data to be better discovered, understood, contextualised, and effectively used by analytics and AI systems
