The European Commission launched last June 14th the Artificial Intelligence Alliance, a forum to engage all relevant stakeholders in a broad and open discussion of all aspects of Artificial Intelligence development and its impacts.
The first Big Data Value Meetup, a 3 days event organized in Sofia (Bulgaria) in May 2018 by the Big Data Value Association, BDVe project and Mozaika, gathered the European Big Data community to discuss and exchange thoughts, ideas and insights about the present and the future of the data driven economy.
The short papers (2-3 pages average length. 4 pages max. length) submission deadline for the BDVA Workshop on Software Architecture Challenges in Big Data - SACBD@ECSA2018 has been extended until June 21st 2018.
The SynchroniCity open call launches June 1st 17:00 CEST and closes September 30th 17:00 CEST. The project has 3 million Euro for the Open Call that will be distributed essentially among SMEs/startups, but cities and big companies are also entitled to participate under certain conditions
Big-data Earth observation Technology and Tools Enhancing Research and development is an EU-H2020 research and innovation project, started in November 2017 to the end of October 2020.
The project’s main objective is to implement Big Data solutions (denominated as Data Pipelines) based on the usage of large volumes and heterogeneous Earth Observation datasets.
On June 7th 2018, the European Commission announced its proposal of €100 billion for for research and innovation the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027. A new programme – Horizon Europe – will build on the achievements and success of the previous research and innovation programme (Horizon 2020) and keep the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation. Horizon Europe is the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever.

On the 14th of May 2018, the BDVA General Assembly officially welcomed 2 new associate members: Ertico ITS Europe and Quantos Statistics & information systems. Additionally, RISE SICS, the leading research institute for applied information and communication technology in Sweden, founded in 1985 and associate member of BDVA since March 2016, upgraded its membership to becomse a BDVA FULL member
