Representatives from the BDVA and AEGIS, BigDataOcean, DataBio, MyHealthMyData and Special PPP Projects participated in the Research Data Alliance (RDA) EU Data Innovation Forum, held in Brussels on the 30th of January 2018 and shared their results and examples of challenges to be met, in the overall context of the European Data Economy and data-driven innovation in Europe, and mapped to ongoing activities or future challenges to be addressed by the RDA.

EOSC-hub and OpenAIRE-Advance projects, started in January 2018 and running for three years, will be instrumental to make the European Open Science Cloud a reality. In the context of evaluations of existing EU financial programmes and the future proposal of the next long-term budget for the EU covering several policy areas, the European Commission has launched public consultations on EU funds in the area of investment, research & innovation, SMEs and Single Market. Such consultations follow the objective to collect the views of all interested parties on how to make the most of every euro of the EU budget and make comprehensive proposals for the next generation of financial programmes for the post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework in May.
EU Citizens are invited to give feedbacks on how the current EU policies and programmes support innovation and investments in strategic digital infrastructures, and how work could further be improved in terms of performance, simplification or opportunities for synergies between funds.
On the 1st of February, BDVA Members will meet in Brussels for the 24th Activity Group Meeting. Some Task Forces/Subgroups sessions will take place on January 31st in the afternoon.
The BigDataEurope (BDE) project came to a close at the end of 2017 with a number of technical results to show after three years of development and pilot testing. A key outcome of the project was the Big Data Integrator Platform(BDI), which provides an integrated stack of tools that allow large-scale data resources to be processed, analysed and published without the need for native installations of additional tools for data processing at scale.
During the course of the project, BDE’s Thessaloniki-based transport pilot, which represents the EU’s fourth societal challenge (SC4), carried out important development and testing of the BDI Platform.
The Joint Conference on Data Science 2018 (JCDS18) is organised on the 22nd -23rd May 2018 in Edinburgh.

On 11th of January 2018 the European Commission confirmed its commitment to the EuroHPC strategy announcing its plan to invest jointly with the Member States in building a world-class European supercomputer infrastructure.
The European Commission has launched a call for a pilot project in the field of digital enablers in SMEs with the aim of supporting their digitisation and enhancing their capacity to go international and innovate. The pilot project will be for a maximum amount of €994.000. The call will close the 31st of January.
